The Windowing: Day 1

I think we can say a starting point of it's never fun to have your house overrun with people who leave noxious fumes and a three inch layer of dust in their wake is reasonable. Using that as a baseline, on a scale of firing up the engine in the garage as the door closes to at least that one guy looked cute in a hat I thought yesterday rated about a B (see: caveat below). They showed up at 9:00am, which wasn't too bad compared to showing up never. They put in twelve new windows, which look spectacular. We were worried about putting in vinyl windows with all the pretty woodwork, but the color matches really well and now it's like were living in this century or even the next, window-wise. Welcome to the future! The attic received insulation, although there was some debate about whether this was the correct thing to do (see: point man for our contract no longer employed with company).

My main complaint centers around the screws, paint chips, and dirty window blinds that were (I can only imagine) gently placed in Dylan's crib. This is sort of the bind you get into with doing lead remediation -- it is much safer once the work is done, but in the meantime the risk skyrockests, what with the newly mobilized toxic little tidbits everywhere. I suppose it's time to have a little talk about what the phrase "lead-safe work practices" means to each of us.
